Car Crash - Devlog #1

DevLog #1 - Car Crash 🚗💥

Hello Coders 👾

I’m super excited to share with you the journey of my latest project, a game I’ve affectionately named “Car Crash.” Let’s buckle up and dive into the development process together!

🎓 Why the devlog?

So, I’ve been following this awesome game development course that’s been using Unity, and guess what? I’m just a couple of lessons from the finish line. But instead of just doing the assignments, I thought, why not apply what I’m learning directly into my final game project? That’s right, I’m all about that practical application!

Most of the time, these assignments have us add features to a new game or one we’ve been building throughout the course. And this week, I’ve revved up the engines and started working on my game. The current lesson? All about audio, baby! 🎶

🎮 What is the game about?

“Car Crash” is a little nod to one of the first games I ever made back in the ‘90s. Picture this: you’re driving a car represented by a #, trying to stay within the road’s borders marked by !. Those borders would zigzag randomly, and you had to swerve to stay on track.

Fast forward to now, it’s shaping up to be an endless scroller where you’re behind the wheel, dodging obstacles left and right. I’m using the SimpleTown assets from Synthy Studios.

🛣️ What is done so far?

I’ve been burning rubber on this project, and here’s what I’ve got under the hood so far:

  • Generating the road: I’ve got a bunch of road prefabs, some plain, some with obstacles, and even a crossing. It’s all randomly generated to keep you on your toes.
  • Car movement: When you steer, the car tilts a bit to give you that immersive feel.
  • World movement: The world moves beneath you, creating an endless game illusion. Old pieces get removed, and new ones appear ahead, like magic!

And for the assignment’s sake, I’ve added some sweet tunes, engine sounds, and skid noises for when you’re pulling off those tight maneuvers.

🎵 What’s next?

The road ahead includes:

  • Adding more sounds, especially one for when you crash and burn (hopefully not literally).
  • Implementing collisions with obstacles for that dramatic explosion effect.
  • Introducing a mute option for the audio, because sometimes you just need a little quiet time.

Stay tuned for the next update where I’ll be fine-tuning these features and maybe even throwing in a few surprises!

So, what do you think of “Car Crash” so far? I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or even your own experiences with game development. Drop a comment below, and let’s chat!

If you’re digging this dev journey and don’t want to miss any of the action, make sure to subscribe or follow for more updates. I can’t wait to share more of this adventure with you!

Until next time, keep those engines running and those creative ideas flowing.

Happy gaming!
